The Mount Marathon must be good if someone is willing to drop $710 on the entry fee.
SEWARD — Anchorage’s Rob Milby isn’t much of an age-group mountain runner. He’s not much of an asphalt runner, either.
But on Monday night inside a packed Seward High gymnasium, Milby gained entry into today’s 79th annual Mount Marathon, arguably Alaska’s most grueling mountain race, with one click of his pen.
The 25-year-old will be a true rookie in a Fourth of July race that hammers even the best mountain runners. He bashfully admitted that he’s never set foot on the 3,022-foot peak in Seward.
