Now is the time for base training.

For most of us the racing season is over, with the exception of a few snowshoe races or low key XC races, we will not return to serious racing until next spring. During this down time it is key to start building a base if we want to have a strong racing season next year. Searching the internet for articles on base training I found a few that are well worth reading:

Aerobic Base Training- Going Slower to Get Faster
Training the Lydiard Way: 28 Weeks to a PR (Lydiard recommended 3 months or longer of base training)
A Fundamental Foundation

So slip into the “slow is OK mindset” and start logging the big miles. You will be much stronger next year because of it.
