Westerners vs Africans who would win in a Mountain Race?

November 23rd, 2006 by Scott · 1 Comment

I always wondered about this. African runners dominate the road and track, but who would win in a mountain race? African runners have not competed in the big international mountain races so this is a question many have debated over. Generally western runners have more power which is important in a mountain race, but African runners are feather light so this may compensate. Some say the fluid running style of the top African runners is not suitable to this type of running. Well we will see on Saturday on conclusion of the Obudu Ranch International Mountain Race which has the top Mountain Runners such as Jonathan Wyatt of New Zealand,  Marco de Gasperi from Italy and William du Bois of Australia competing against runners from  Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Eritrea, Cameroon, Rwanda, South Africa and host Nigeria.
