I know I have pushed the snowshoeing in a few posts lately, but I have to share this. On Saturday I had one of my best workouts of the year. I headed up Hollyburn Mountain in Cypress Provincial Park to the Hollyburn Peak route. Ascending this trail run when dry is a challenge but when there is 30cm of soft stuff on it you are working overtime. The great thing about the workout was I averaged 175 bpm which is close to what I hold during a tempo run but I had zero impact on the joints and had a blast ascending and descending the mountain. I truly believe this could be the greatest cross training activity for runners.
