After completing the Grand Raid Sahara Canadian ultra runner Sandy McCallum is one step closer to the Guiness Book of Records for being the first runner to complete six such races in one year. Sandy tracked her progress on the Desert Sun Run website.
I find it interesting that a runner from such a cold climate is able to run so well in these races. It just shows how adaptable the human body can be to extreme environments.
Other races Sandy has completed include:
240-kilometre Gobi March, placing fourth among women racers.
240-kilometre Atacama Crossing in Chile, placing second.
240-kilometre Sahara Race, also placing second.
She has a passion for deserts around the world, and excels in temperatures hovering around 50 C. In 2005, she became the first person in the Western Hemisphere to race 1,600 kilometres across the Sahara Desert.
