This post is going to be a post about my favorite race of the year The Seek the Peak which will be held on June 10th, 2007 starting in West Vancouver BC. In 2005 I ran this race for the first time on a dare more or less from a friend, after completing the race and waiting for a few minutes for the burn to leave my legs I realized this has to be the coolest race in the Lower Mainland, British Columbia. The Seek the Peak is more commonly know as a “relay” but you can run the race solo as well. The race is a classic mountain run, a 16km course which starts at the sea level Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, winds its way through North Vancouver’s Capilano Canyon, then heads up Nancy Greene Way before climbing the legendary Grouse Grind then up to the very peak of Grouse Mountain. The race gains more that 4,100 vertical leg burning feet along the way. The race also serves as a fund raiser for Rethink Breast Cancer so it is for a good cause. The race has been used by the Canadian Mountain Running Team as a qualifier in the past so it can be competitive as well for those who want to test themselves against elite mountain runners.
If there are any trail/mountain runners out there looking for a challenge and have this weekend open I highly suggest coming out for this one. Even if you don’t want to race it do it as a hard training session it is for a good cause.
