The Teva Mountain Games announced the winners for the third annual Everest Awards on Friday, June 1 in Vail. The Everest Awards are known as the ‘Oscars of the Outdoor Industry,’ the Everest Awards are presented to the male and female adventure sports athletes with the most outstanding achievements and accomplishments in the past year. The nominations were submitted by the public via the Mountain Games website and the finalists and winners were chosen by a panel of outdoor writers and experts.
Male Trail Runner of the Year
Karl Meltzer
Meltzer of Sandy, Utah, won six 100-mile races last year. Meltzer has 40 victories in 79 starts in ultradistance events.
Female Trail Runner of the Year
Darcy Africa
Africa finished the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning – four 100-mile endurance runs in Squaw Valley, Calif., Vermont, Leadville and Utah’s Wasatch Range – and finished with the fastest time of any other racer.
