This article might be of interest to the caffeine junkies out there. I know I usually have a few cups an hour or 2 before a race then cut my intake, but according to this smaller dosages leading up to the race would be more optimal. I have heard that caffeine does seem to help during ultras but I have not tried this as of yet. I know Tour de France riders often chug cokes down for the blast of sugar/caffeine to keep them sharp (among other things).
