American men schooled at the Ultra Tour du Mont-Blanc

August 27th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Well, well looks the American men were schooled in ultra running European style at the Ultra Tour du Mont-Blanc. I watched the posts on the Wasatch Speed Goats on the USA vs Europe hype and I was just hoping they would be schooled. Well actually I kind of knew they would be I spent some time in Chamonix this summer and saw some pretty amazing athletes I knew the it would not be easy to simply smash records and go for podium placements… Congratulations to American Nikki Kimball for her amazing race and to Marco Olmo the 59 year old winner!!!

Check out Scott Jurek’s race report as well.

Cool UTMB videos on the Chamonix.com site.

I don’t know about schooled. It wasn’t even a target race for them. Scott and Karl had just did Hardrock. I think results might be different if they come back with this as a target race and having experience on the course.

I disagree. They definitely were schooled. I am sure they didn’t fly half way around the world to enjoy the scenery. They were going for a win in one of the most elite ultras in the world. That being said yes I think they would have done a hell of a lot better if they didn’t run Hardrock as well as all the other ultra’s they pounded out this year. These guys impress me with the fact that they would even attempt UTMB so close to Hardrock!

I still don’t think they where schooled. Scott Jurek or Karl Meltzer either one has the talent to win this race. Looking forward to next year where it sounds like this race might be more of a priority for both of them.
