Three Peaks Marathon: Mountain Running and Sailing in one race!

November 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

I have heard of races with mountain running and mountain biking, rock climbing or XC skiing but the Three Peaks Marathon is by far the most unique mountain running and sailing! For those trail runners headed down under this Easter it might be something worth checking out.

“The 20th race has attracted a large number of new competitors to join those who have raced regularly in recent years,” Douglas said yesterday.

The Three Peaks race is known throughout the world as Australia’s premier short-handed sailing endurance and mountain running race.

It is a non-stop event offering a combination of two contrasting disciplines in yachting and running.

The race starts at Beauty Point on the Tamar River and finishes in Hobart.

Teams of two runners have to complete three marathon-length runs which include scaling Mt Strzelecki on Flinders Island, Mt Freycinet at Coles Bay and Mt Wellington in Hobart.
